Spouse & Partner Visa

Join your British or settled partner and build your life in the UK.

The spouse or partner visa lets you live in the UK with your husband, wife, civil partner or long-term unmarried partner who is British, Irish or settled here. You'll usually need to show a genuine relationship, a combined income of at least £29,000 a year (or enough savings) and basic English. It is granted in stages and normally leads to settlement after 5 years.

Fiancé(e) Visa

Come to the UK to marry your British or settled partner.

The fiancé(e) or proposed civil partner visa lets you come to the UK for 6 months to marry, or form a civil partnership with, someone who is British, Irish or settled here. You must meet the same relationship, financial, accommodation and English requirements as a spouse. After the ceremony you switch to a spouse or partner visa without leaving the UK.

Visa Extensions (FLR)

Extend your permission to stay in the UK before your visa runs out.

Further Leave to Remain (FLR) is permission to stay in the UK for longer. Most extensions we handle are for partners and spouses renewing their family visa – known as FLR(M) – for a further 2 years and 6 months, but we also deal with Skilled Worker, visitor and other extensions. You must apply before your current permission expires.

Work

1 route

Skilled Worker Visa

Work in the UK for an approved employer in an eligible skilled job.

The Skilled Worker visa lets you come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job for an employer approved by the Home Office. Most new applicants now need a graduate-level job (RQF 6 or above) paid at least £41,700 a year or the going rate for the role, whichever is higher, plus English at level B2. The visa can last up to 5 years at a time and can lead to settlement.

Employers

1 route

Sponsor Licence (for employers)

Get Home Office approval to recruit and sponsor overseas workers.

A sponsor licence lets your organisation employ people from overseas on routes such as the Skilled Worker visa. You apply online, show the Home Office that you are a genuine UK organisation with suitable roles and HR systems, and pay a fee based on your size. Once licensed, you must meet ongoing compliance duties or risk a downgrade, suspension or revocation.

Staying & settling

1 route

Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)

Settle permanently in the UK, with no time limit on your stay.

Indefinite leave to remain (ILR), also called settlement, lets you live, work and study in the UK for as long as you like, and is usually the step before British citizenship. How soon you qualify depends on your visa: most partners and Skilled Workers can apply after 5 years, and others after 10 years' lawful residence. The Government has consulted on an 'earned settlement' system with a 10-year baseline, but as of 23 September 2026 those proposals have not been brought into the Immigration Rules.

Citizenship

1 route

British Citizenship

Become a British citizen and gain the right to a British passport.

Naturalisation is how most adults become British citizens. You'll usually need to have lived in the UK for 5 years and held indefinite leave to remain (or settled status) for 12 months – or 3 years, with no 12-month wait, if you're married to a British citizen. You must also pass the Life in the UK Test, prove your English and meet the good character requirement.

Specialist or chatbot?

Thinking of asking a chatbot instead?

More people now ask a chatbot about their visa. AI tools are quick, but they don't know your evidence, they can be confidently wrong, and nobody is accountable when a refusal lands.

An AI chatbotA Mayfair Immigration specialist
Up-to-date rules Trained on information that can be months or years old. The Immigration Rules change several times a year, and chatbots often quote thresholds and fees that no longer apply. Solicitors who follow every statement of changes and Home Office guidance update, and check every figure before you rely on it.
Accuracy Can produce answers that sound certain but are wrong, including requirements that don't exist and documents you don't need. Advice based on the actual Immigration Rules and caseworker guidance, and put in writing.
Your evidence Never sees your payslips, bank statements or relationship evidence, and that's where most refusals start. Every document checked against the evidence rules: dates, formats, gaps and consistency.
Judgement Can't weigh the discretionary, human parts of a case, such as a genuine relationship, credibility, or a previous refusal. On Complete and Priority, a former UK immigration judge reviews your case the way a decision-maker would, before it's submitted.
Accountability If the answer is wrong, nobody is responsible, and you pay the fees again. A named solicitor responsible for your case, and our free appeal guarantee on routes with a right of appeal.
Privacy Pasting passport scans, bank statements and family details into public AI tools can expose sensitive personal data. Your documents are handled confidentially and only used for your case.
After you apply Can't answer a Home Office request for more information, challenge a refusal or run an appeal. We deal with the Home Office for you, from further-evidence requests to administrative review and appeals.

Excellent service! I have used Mayfair Immigration Visa Services twice for my visa applications, and both times my visas were successfully approved. The team is very professional, knowledgeable, and supportive throughout the whole process. They clearly explained all the requirements and guided me step by step, which made the application much easier and less stressful. Their communication was always quick and helpful whenever I had questions. I truly appreciate their dedication and professionalism. I highly recommend Mayfair Visa Services to anyone looking for reliable and trustworthy visa assistance.

  • Mayfair Immigration Services provided outstanding support throughout my visa application process. In particular, my Case Owner, John, was truly exceptional. He offered clear, detailed guidance at every step and patiently listened to all my questions and concerns — no matter how many I had. His professionalism and reassurance made me feel fully supported during what could have otherwise been an extremely stressful experience.

  • Best Immigration Solicitors.

I would like to sincerely thank Mayfair Solicitors, especially Mr. Mohsin Uddin, for handling every stage of my immigration journey with exceptional professionalism and genuine care. From my very first application – the Spouse Visa – Mohsin Uddin tailored every detail with precision, ensuring nothing was ever missed. I had previously dealt with another solicitor, but the difference in service was remarkable. Mohsin was never too busy to answer my calls, respond to my emails, or reassure me when I was anxious. His communication and commitment gave me confidence at every step. Because of the trust and faith I developed in him, I also instructed Mohsin to manage my ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) application. Thanks to his guidance and meticulous attention to detail, my ILR was approved within three months. Mohsin then advised me to apply for Naturalisation without delay due to upcoming rule changes and rising passport fees. I followed his advice, and with his continued support, I received my British Passport in November 2025 — something I once feared might never happen. I was extremely worried when I started this process years ago, but Mohsin’s expertise, encouragement, and clear direction gave me the confidence to submit everything required by the Home Office without hesitation. If anyone is struggling with immigration matters or needs trustworthy legal representation, I wholeheartedly recommend Mayfair Solicitors. I am living proof of what the right solicitor can achieve.

  • Excellent and top quality service by Mayfair and John

John and Mayfair team had previously supported us in our spouse visa application 2 years back with a fantastic service. Therefore, we engaged again with John and his team, who have been very helpful and super supportive in assisting our spouse visa extension case. So, this is our second engagement with Mayfair and they are brilliant. Highly professional and specialized in what they do. We appreciate John and his team were always reachable and had addressed any queries/issues we raised to them ensuring we are at peace, which we felt very important and fantastic about them. We will engage with them in 2.5 years of time from now for my wife's ILR. God bless you John and team for your support and service.
